Jet Ski Rescues + Fires of Unknown Origin + Ex-Offender Reform
The Raleigh Daily is the quickest way to get caught up on everything happening in town today.

Happy National Pecan Pie Day,
Today we see one way Raleigh sheriff's deputies are investing and keeping us safe, a few local give-backs, and news of fire and car wrecks to be aware of. I also found some great events that will let you socialize and make Monday's feel a little less like the dreaded first workday for many.
Today's weather: Humid and partly cloudy throughout the day. High: 89 Low: 76.
Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:
- Wake County Sheriff's Department is investing $30,500 into purchasing two new jet skis that will be used to cut down response times on local waters. Falls Lake has already seen two drownings this year, and with narrow or shallow coves, regular rescue boats are not agile enough to reach some areas quickly. The hope for the new addition to the response team is to cut down the time it takes for officials to reach people in distress. (CBS17)
- Saturday night, a two-story Raleigh home on Tetons Court caught fire. There were 33 firefighters present who fought to put the fire out. No one was injured in the blaze, however it did leave three adults and a child displaced. There is no word at this time as to what caused the fire. (CBS17)
- Another Raleigh location experienced a fire near the historic City Market. A vacant building at Blake Street and East Martin Street caught fire around 2:30 am. The flames were quickly extinguished by officials, and it is being investigated as arson unless new evidence shows otherwise. (WRAL)
- Sunday morning, just before 7:00 am, a serious crash occurred where a driver struck a power pole. The crash broke the pole, and all three of the individuals in the car were taken to the hospital because of their injuries. Poole Road was shut down from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Beverly Drive to investigate the wreck. (WRAL)
- Recidivism Reduction Educational Program Services, or RREPS is a local nonprofit started by Kerwin Pittman to help individuals who have experience in the criminal justice system. After undergoing his own journey in the criminal justice system, Pittman was inspired to help others move forward and create a path to becoming a paralegal at no expense. Thanks to partnerships with Red Hat, Smith-Anderson Law Firm, and Meredith College, he has been able to guarantee internships and jobs to previously incarcerated persons. (CBS17)

- For National Pecan Pie Day there are two incredible spots to get pie that I have personally been obsessed with, Cutie Pies and Slice Pie Company.
- The State Trooper who was driven off the road and into a tree during pursuit of a stolen vehicle is doing O.K. and only suffered minor injuries from the crash. (WRAL)
- Former NC State star T.J. Warren is giving back to the community with a day of food, games, and fun to ease the pain of the pandemic. (abc11)

Au revoir for today, neighbors. I would tell you to go out and enjoy the weather, but honestly who enjoys a humid 89? So instead, go enjoy all that this weather lends us the opportunity to do. Get together with others indoors, now that we're allowed to do that again, and enjoy some air-conditioned company. Just remember to stay safe and be mindful of your friends' and families' health.
