Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:

  1. Two people were targeted in a kidnapping off Gorman Street near South NCSU Campus. One of the targets ran away successfully but the second target was forced into a white Chevrolet. The victim was later found in Durham unharmed. Two men in ski masks were responsible for the kidnapping, one with a semi-automatic handgun. (abc11, WRAL)

  3. UNC Rex opened its new state of the art Cancer Center last Tuesday. The new facility is four stories, more than 100,000 square feet, and consolidates multiple locations into one. The UNC Rex Cancer Center was designed with input from patients, families, physicians, nurses, and others. It will also offer a new "Quality of Life Clinic." (abc11)
  4. A Raleigh fire that stemmed from a space heater, completely destroyed a home. The fire was reported around 7:00 pm near East Street. The fire took 60 firefighters nearly 2 hours to extinguish. (CBS17) Another fire occurred as a Louisburg College softball team was headed to a tournament in Alabama. The bus caught fire after heat caused one of the tires to explode. (CBS17)

Looking for a healthy alternative to that mid-week glass (or three) of wine? Our partners at Betera set out to create beverages that were sophisticated and flavorful enough to drink at cocktail hour but with zero hangover risk. (Their motto is "Drink like there's tomorrow.") Betera's drinks are designed by a Michelin-starred chef using natural botanicals — they're lightly effervescent, sippable, refreshingly bitter and at home in a stem glass or in a highball on the rocks. Betera offers three recipes — Rhubarb-Hibiscus, Elderflower-Lime and Ginger-Orange. We've tried all three and loved them equally — we recommend the mixed case as a great place to start. Betera has extended their 15% discount on first orders to Daily readers, in appreciation for the enthusiastic response so far. Enter Patch15 at checkout and https://bit.ly/TryBetera.
