Law Enforcement Shifts Focus + Conditions for Fire

Raleigh has an exciting event to explore history and is taking steps to make history. As we get closer to summer, there are some precautions you should be taking to keep your community safe, and some things to know if you are one of the 380,000+ individuals still struggling to find work as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  1. The Raleigh Police Department is taking a step in response to the civil unrest following the murder of George Floyd in May of 2020. They have created a system for Addressing Crises through Outreach (ACORNS) in order to try to provide care and safety first, and law enforcement last. (CBS17)
  2. A house fire Saturday morning leaves a Raleigh family displaced. This happens as the NC Forest Service officials ask residents to postpone outdoor burning due to the increased risk of wildfire in the warm, dry, weather. The cause of the house fire is still unknown, but thankfully no one was home or injured. (cbs11 - wnct9)
  3. Another fire has forced St. Roch Fine Oysters + Bar to close down. The fire reportedly started around 1:30am and the owner suspects that it was the result of an electrical problem in a cooler. They hope to be able to re-open again soon as they just recently became able to host to full capacity. (WRAL)
  4. Gov. Roy Cooper has issued an executive order to encourage unemployed residents to return to work. Beginning June 6th the work search requirements will be reinstated. He also has directed the NC Department of Commerce to look into creating an incentive to return to work. (WAVY, WRAL)
  5. A step for gender equality is happening in a field that has been long dominated by men. More than 65 women, spanning all aspects of the project, have been hired to partake in the construction of the Trilogy Apartments building in Village District. (abc11)
