Here are the top four stories today in Raleigh:

  1. On Saturday morning, the City of Raleigh hosted a renaming ceremony for the LeVelle Moton park in Raleigh, formerly Lane Street Park. Many friends, family members, and colleagues from NCCU were in attendance. During the celebration, Moton gave an unscripted speech acknowledging the value of teamwork. 2. The City of Raleigh is working to create hundreds of new housing options, but is still struggling to meet demand. Levelle Moton has had a hand in transforming his old neighborhood. Developers are securing the funding to start building a 17-home subdivision on Lane Street. The homes will be available for people who make between 50 to 80 percent of the area's median income. Since 2016, the city of Raleigh created 2,872 affordable housing units, with 544 more in the works, and a goal of 5,700 by 2026. (WRAL)
  3. Four years ago, Howard Boone was victim to gun violence, and was left paralyzed from the neck down. Now, after a long delay, Boone has achieved his personal dream and graduated from Saint Augustine's University with a 4.0 GPA and a degree in criminal justice. Prior to the incident that took Boone's mobility, he aspired to rise through the ranks in the military, and now he hopes to inspire the next generation with his story of perseverance.
