Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:
- Local law enforcement agencies promised to crack down on reckless driving and speeding, and the Wake County Sheriff's Office has issued more than three times the number of speeding tickets than this time last year. (WRAL) In another effort to keep roads safe, the Raleigh Police Department has teamed up with Advance Auto Parts to offer fewer tickets and more assistance. If an individual is pulled over and officers notice a need, they might receive a $25 Advance Auto Parts gift card to alleviate some of the burden. (WNCT9)
- Local late night food vendors are pushing back on some of the new ordinances affecting mobile vendors. On Tuesday night, the Raleigh City Council voted to have pushcarts stop selling food at 1:15 am instead of 3:00 am. Owner of Fresh Outta Brooklyn said that his busiest hour is 1:00 am-2:00 am as bar patrons are waiting for their transportation to leave and anticipates a loss of 30-40% of his income. (CBS17)
- Hundreds were without power in downtown Raleigh after a vehicle damaged Duke Energy equipment. The loss occurred around 10:20 pm and power was restored by 11:45 pm. (CBS17)
- Cary police are investigating the robbery of a couple on a neighborhood street. The victims were forced to the ground by the suspects at gunpoint, and they sustained minor injuries. The police have not identified any suspects. (CBS17)
- The North Carolina budget has officially been signed into law by Governor Cooper, after receiving the final OK from lawmakers. Many state employees will receive pay raises as well as a drop in personal income tax. (FOX8) One of the more anticipated inclusions of the bill, the teaching subsidy, will be excluding Wake, Durham, and Mecklenburg counties. Senator Phil Berger's office emphasized that the supplement was created to help counties that cannot provide high local teacher supplements. (abc11)
