Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:
- The vacant site where Kroger used to be near North Hills will become a new space for a life sciences company. The property was purchased to be turned into a 100,000 square foot lab that will open late in 2022. It is not known at this time what company will lease the space. (CBS17)
- Some nonpartisan groups are seeking to move the Wake County primary from March to May over concerns with the congressional and state legislative district maps. Wake County Superior Court Judge Graham Shirley declined the delay stating that as of now the maps have not been deemed unconstitutional. (CBS17)
- Over $30,000 worth of items were stolen from a Cary boutique on Wednesday morning. Cameras caught two men rushing in and taking more than 30 high-end bags and wallets from J'adore Boutique at 4:00 am. The theft took about 30 seconds and with supply chain issues, owner Nicole Denny is concerned for her livelihood. (WRAL)
- The Neuse River waterdog was upgraded to federally threatened status this summer as the species has nearly disappeared from local waterways. The brown, and polka-dotted salamanders with red gills are only found in North Carolina's Neuse and Tar Rivers, but due to development, they are scarce in Wake County now. (INDY Week)
- A North Carolina appeals court blocked enforcement of a trial judge's order to move $1.75 billion to address public education inequities without legislative approval. The majority of a three-judge panel sided with State Controller Linda Combs stating that the job of appropriating money rests solely with the General Assembly. (Spectrum News 1)
