Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:

  1. Raleigh Police are investigating a Friday night shooting that left two injured and one dead. The shooting took place around 9:00 pm on Burgundy Street. Police transported the three victims to the hospital, and LaShawn Tylek Ford passed away at the hospital on Saturday morning. Anyone with information is asked to contact Raleigh CrimeStoppers.   2. The Raleigh Fire Department and EMS units responded to a home fire on Bluff Street in south Raleigh. According to division chief Robert Hodge of the RFD, two residents were home and got out safely, with no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation and the Red Cross will be assisting with displaced residents. (CBS17)
  3. A Raleigh-based artist and illustrator is excited to have been selected out of 200 submissions to create a piece of art to be displayed at Dreamville. Zac Bender already has his work featured at local businesses like Boxcar Bar & Arcade, Blowfish Bar and Gamers Geekery & Tavern. His mural theme features tarot cards with artists displayed in a field of flowers, in a nod to Dix Park. (WRAL)
  4. Wake County library staff will be reviewing LGBTQ-centered books in the coming weeks, and this time they will use the new version of book review policy. Leaders approved the new policy Friday and it goes into effect immediately. The policy will be reviewed every two years. (INDY Week)
  5. The North Carolina unemployment rate fell to 3.7% in February. In January, the unemployment rate was at 3.9%, and December at 4.1%. The steady decline has taken place since September 2020. The 3.7% figure is significant, because according to Governor Roy Cooper's office, the state's economy has recovered to pre-pandemic employment levels. (Spectrum News 1)

  • I don't know about you all but I love paella, and for National Spanish Paella Day, the best I have found is right out by RDU at Carmen's Cuban Café & Lounge. If you know of better, let me know because I will have to taste for myself.
  • You may see a new spider around this year, but the joro spider is not harmful to humans or pets. (CBS17)
