Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:
- The first court date for Willie Daniels was postponed as he remains in the hospital following the violent crime spree. Daniels is facing six counts of attempted first-degree murder, and various other charges that stem from events following the fire he started while searching for his wife. Police Chief Estella Patterson commended officers for their handling of the situation. (abc11, WRAL)
- Raleigh police are investigating an early Saturday morning shooting outside of Carolina Ale House. One man was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Police said they do have a suspect in custody and are investigating what led up to the altercation. (WRAL)
- Two major crashes are being investigated by Raleigh police officers.
- A Saturday morning crash took the life of one person on Capital Boulevard. Part of the road was closed into the afternoon as officials investigated the crash. (WRAL)
- A woman was taken to the hospital after being hit by a motorcycle while crossing Capital Boulevard on Friday night. The incident took place around 9:55 pm after a woman attempted to cross the street after a group of motorcyclists was given a green light. Injuries are not believed to be life threatening. (CBS17)
- The family of Gregory Thomas is concerned after he did not show up to work on Thursday. The husband and father of two last spoke to his significant other early on Thursday during heavy storms. Search and rescue efforts were suspended on Friday night after a water team swam up to two-and-a-half miles of Neuse river, but only found debris that did not match Thomas' car. (WRAL)
- The already competitive Triangle housing market is facing more economic pressures that could make it even more strained. The record inflation and gas price increase of 21% nationwide are partnering to reduce the amount of money in homebuyers pockets. The average home sale price hit a record in February across the U.S. at $345,000, and interest rates are set to increase. (abc11)
