Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:

  1. Mask mandates were lifted in 7 more cities Friday, including Raleigh. Private businesses and organizations will still able to require masks if they choose. Wake County Schools will adopt a mask optional policy beginning on March 7. (WRAL) Although many counties are loosening mask requirements for the general public and in schools, Governor Roy Cooper vetoed the legislation that would have allowed K-12 students to opt out of masking requirements. (Associated Press News)
  2. Two rallies took to Raleigh in the past two days. More than 100 gathered outside of the State Capitol to stand with Ukraine as Russia's invasion began. Many Ukrainian Americans have made attempts to get in touch with friends and family as dozens have been killed on both sides. (abc11) The second rally on Friday was a convoy of about 50 people protesting COVID-19 pandemic mandates. The rally was supported by a small group of Proud Boys and others emphasizing conspiracy theories regarding pharmaceutical companies. (WRAL)
  3. Dominc Glenn was arrested and charged in at least three of the five robberies that occurred in Raleigh this past week. Glenn was located in New Jersey after the Federal Bureau of Investigation assisted in the case. The arrest came without incident and it is unclear at this time if Glenn will also be charged in the robberies that took place in Cary and Morrisville. (abc11)
  4. A woman was arrested after an incident stemmed from altercations at a Raleigh nightclub. Courtney Alexis McClelland was charged with first-degree arson and two counts of attempted murder. Deputies determined that she threatened to harm the victims during the nightclub altercation and then hours later "committed a crime" at the victim's residence. (CBS17)
  5. The Wake County Animal Shelter has issued a plea to the community, saying that they "desperately need our community to come and adopt dogs." The shelter is proud that they have not needed to euthanize animals for space since 2016, but with capacity filling up they are in need of adopters. The shelter's adoption gallery is available online and the shelter is open from 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm seven days a week. (WRAL)
