Here are the top four stories today in Raleigh:

  1. On the 43rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial March on Monday morning, around 400 people came out to walk in honor of his legacy. The crowd danced and sang hymns in the hour-long event. Participants marched from the front of the state Capitol building, down Fayetteville Street to the front of the Duke Energy Center for Performing Arts. The Triangle MLK Committee organized the march as well as several events for the holiday. (aol, CBS17)
  2. More than 3,000 Duke Energy customers in Cary lost power on Sunday night. The outage occurred in the area around Farmington Woods Drive and High Meadow Drive. A spokesperson from Duke Energy said that the outage was caused by equipment failure on an underground power line in the area. Most residents had power restored at around 10 a.m.. (WRAL)
  3. Raleigh police and other Wake County law enforcement agencies have been participating in a driving crackdown. On interstates officers focused on violations to the North Carolina "Move Over" law and officers made 71 traffic stops. Raleigh police also worked with other agencies in a "saturation patrol. " They encountered 109 speeders, 54 DWI offenders, 36 revoked licenses, 20 drug arrests, eight drivers with no insurance and four seized cars. (CBS17)
  4. WRAL reporter Julian Grace is thanking Raleigh police officers for saving his life in an incident on January 2. In a video posted on his Facebook page, Grace shared his experience driving home around 12:40 a.m. when four police officers sped past him on I-440 east. The officers slowed down and formed a line in front of him and stopped their vehicles. Grace was confused until he saw a white pickup truck driving the wrong way on the interstate. On Monday morning, the Raleigh Police Department shared Grace's post, saying, "It is our honor to serve our community every day." (WRAL)
