Million Dollar Split + Hairstyles in Softball + Feed the Need

Today there's news of Lottery winnings, softball rule changes, and a potential political scandal. Check out that and so much more below, it has definitely been an interesting news cycle to say the least.

Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:

  1. Almost 10,000 people won the Carolina Pick 3 drawing, and will split the $3.6 million jackpot. The winning numbers, 0-0-0 , were played by a reported 9,307 players. Each winner will receive between $250-$500 for their winning tickets after the split. (abc11)
  2. A high school softball rule regarding permitted hair styles has been removed. After a high school athlete was forced to cut her hair during a softball game, The Softball Rules Committee has amended the modifications to no longer restrict hard objects in hair, such as beads, as well as religious coverings. (CBS17)
  3. A man has been arrested in connection to the July 8 robbery at State Employees Credit Union. Aakim Hose Franklin, 52 was charged with common law robbery. No more information has been released regarding why the robbery took place. (CBS17)
  4. Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cary and its members were able to revive an idea that had to be delayed due to COVID-19 concerns in 2020. Their Feed the Need Sunday gave families in attendance each $10 gift-cards to use at Publix. Families were encouraged to use the cards to purchase and give to the Dorcas Ministries food pantry, and many went above and beyond giving from their personal accounts as well. (abc11)
  5. The Wake County District Attorney will be investigating questionable political contributions by former employees of Louis Dejoy. Dejoy, The US Postmaster General and North Carolinian is accused of violating campaign finance rules which is a felony in NC. Campaign finance watchdogs have found circumstantial evidence that Dejoy used what is known as "straw donor schemes" to illegally fund tens of thousands of dollars to the candidacy of former Governor Pat McCrory and Senator Thom Tillis.
