Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:

  1. The search for Gregory Joseph Thomas has come to a tragic conclusion after his body was recovered in a wooded area near New Bern Avenue and Interstate 440. Family and friends had been searching for Thomas since St. Patrick's Day when he did not show up for work. Thomas left behind a wife and three children. (WAVY, WRAL)
  2. A mobile home caught fire on Monday morning, and it took approximately 30 minutes to get the fire under control. According to EMS officials, four people were able to escape the home fire, but the family dog died in the fire. The mobile home is uninhabitable and at least two were displaced by the fire. (CBS17)
  3. On Sunday afternoon a large group gathered in downtown Raleigh outside of the North Carolina State Capitol in support of Ukraine. There was a display of empty baby strollers and toys to symbolize all of the kids lost during the invasion. One Ukrainian exchange student attending Wake Forest High School as a junior says that the massive rallies are a big boost in motivation to Ukrainian people. (Spectrum News 1)
  4. Drivers on Wade Avenue near Faircloth Street and Ridge Road should expect to see bicyclists sharing the road due to a greenway closure in the area. The Reedy Creek Trail greenway will be closed near Wade Avenue at Meredith College on Hillsborough Street as crews work to relocate the trail to its new alignment and build retaining walls. The work is part of the Interstate 440 Improvements Project that will upgrade the beltline by adding a lane in each direction between Wade Avenue in Raleigh and Walnut Street in Cary. (WRAL)
  5. The CBS17 Storm Team has declared Wednesday as an "Alert Day" due to the increasing threat of severe weather. The Storm Prediction Center has placed all of central North Carolina under a level 2 out of 5 threat for severe storms. The main hazards to prepare for are damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. (CBS17)
