NC native J. Cole announces music festival in Raleigh

Musician J. Cole has been in the news for multiple reasons: a brand new album and an announcement of a music festival in downtown Raleigh

The musician J. Cole is many things, but one thing he is for sure is a proud North Carolinian. The artist is from Fayetteville and even named one of his albums after his childhood street, 2014 Forrest Hills Drive. He's recently been in the news for multiple reasons: a brand new album and an announcement of a new music festival in downtown Raleigh.

The platinum-selling rapper and R&B star released KOD on April 20 and it's been a smash success. It's the best selling album of the year (so far) having sold roughly 397,000 equivalent album units, according to Billboard. That put him at Number 1 on the Billboard charts, beating out fellow rapper Cardi B. Additionally, KOD nearly set all time streaming records for it's first week. It came in as the third-most streamed album during its first week with roughly 322.7 million on-demand streams. The only two above it are Kendrick Lamar's DAMN with 340.6 million and Drake's More Life with 384.8 million. Overall, impressive statistics for the Fayetteville native.

Additionally, J. Cole made another splash. He recently announced the inaugural Dreamville Festival, set for this fall at Raleigh's Dorothy Dix park. Not much has been announced besides the name and date, and while J. Cole is curating the music acts, it's not clear whether or not he'll be performing. Odds are he will, though.

According to a news release, the event "offers an opportunity for J. Cole to give back to his home state that has helped shape the artist he has become with a one-of-a-kind celebration of local culture, food and art that also features a curated selection of music performers blending together some of today’s biggest national acts with exciting up-and-comers."

Tickets went on sale Monday and range between $59 - $99.
