Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:
- The Engineering North Carolina's Future initiative will be funneling $50 million into the NCSU engineering program. This financial backing will allow the College of Engineering to expand from 10,000 students to approximately 14,000. According to the school's website $30 million will support facility upgrades and $20 million will go toward hiring additional faculty and staff. (Technician)
- GoRaleigh transit is set to be at 70% zero or near-zero emissions by the end of 2022. Governor Roy Cooper toured one of the new buses on Tuesday and is looking to get more public transportation transitioning to clean energy. (CBS17)
- A Raleigh police car was hit while investigating two crashes on I-540 west on Monday night. The officer was called to investigate a two car crash and while the officer was investigating, two other vehicles got into an accident while stuck in traffic. While the officer was investigating the incidents, his unoccupied police car was hit. No one was injured in any of the accidents. (WRAL)
- "Gender Queer" is returning to Wake County Public Libraries after being at the center of a controversial tug of war. During a Wake County Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday, library officials shared steps being taken to update the removal process. Once the revision is finished it will need to be approved by various officials, and the decision has been made to return the literature for the time being. (WRAL)
- One man died, and a woman was injured in a Monday night shooting in downtown Raleigh. The shooting occurred around 10:30 pm near the intersection of East Edenton Street and North East Street. Raleigh Police have not identified the victims and have not given any updates regarding suspects. (abc11)
