Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:
- Wake County has the second-highest number of fatal car crashes in NC. The Wake County Sheriff's Office is creating a new unit to crack down on speeders, drunk, and reckless drivers to try and make roads safer. (CBS17)
- The CBS17 Storm Team has issued an "Alert Day" for severe weather today. The predicted weather will likely occur later in the day, potentially bringing damaging wind and a possible isolated tornado. (CBS17)
- A third year political science student at NC State University has announced his candidacy to represent District B on the Raleigh City Council. Minu Lee says that "we need more representation in our city council and in our government in general. We need younger people." (Technician)
- A proposed policy for the Wake County Public School System would allow officials to monitor all use of school internet, including that on personal devices. Board members discussed the policy again on Tuesday and emphasized the goal of safety and policy of non-discrimination. (WRAL)
- City officials are still discussing the wild animal ordinance proposed following the escape of a venomous zebra cobra. City council members expressed that the plan was "too far-reaching." The city council has scrapped the no feeding clause and scaled back the list of included animals. (WRAL)
