Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:
- Dozens of residents were displaced after a Raleigh apartment complex fire on Melvid Court. The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced after 18 units were destroyed that were home to 26 people. Authorities have not said what caused the fire. (WRAL)
- Raleigh native, Grady Matthews will be developing a 225 acre section of land in Garner to create a "gateway" for the region. The project known as the E District will be a high quality mixed-use district in the region that "celebrates wellness, innovation, and connection." Developers of the Downtown South project have also referred to their project as a gateway to the city, but Matthews believes that along with timeless elements, the space will have unique qualities. - Agents with the state's division of Alcohol Law Enforcement cited 25 underaged individuals attempting to get into the bar Teets with fake IDs. Law enforcement promised to increase patrol in the Glenwood South district, and on April 7 officers were in the area and charged all of those who attempted to enter with false identification. A RPD officer assigned to the area told news outlets that the primary goal is to ensure the area is safe and comfortable for everyone. (WRAL)
- Many elderly or disabled medical patients rely on GoWake Access Transportation services, however many have been left waiting for hours to get where they need to go. Wake County is aware of some delays in service however approximately 12% of the 194 complaints received involved the shuttles not showing up. The county is currently down about 18 drivers with a 14% increase in demand. (abc11)
- Organizers of the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle in Raleigh have seen nearly a 10% increase in people seeking help getting affordable healthy food over the past month. With inflation at a record high, many families who were low income are finding themselves unable to get the food that they need to meet the needs of their family. The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is trying to meet the increased need by ramping up their own efforts by more than 20% and partnering with more retailers who can donate food. (CBS17)
