The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Raleigh.

Happy National Child Health Day Raleigh!
Is it weird that I'm excited that it's a Monday? I feel like this weekend has been so chaotic and I'm looking forward to the start of a new week that can hopefully bring a wave of calm. Today also happens to be my son and husband's birthday, and therefore the new week brings so much to celebrate. Before powering through into a fresh week, get caught up on the remnants of last week, including:
- A deal on pit bull adoptions
- Moonrunner's charity golf tournament
- Vote for Raleigh's Brewgaloo to be USA Today's Best Beer Festival
But first, today's weather:
Breezy with a shower. High: 60 Low: 46.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Raleigh who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Raleigh Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:
- Several laws took effect in North Carolina at the start of October. Among the new laws are an elevator safety law named in memory of the 7-year-old Weston Androw who died in an Outer Banks vacation rental elevator incident. Another law that took effect clarifies that hospitals and medical offices cannot attempt to bill victims of sexual assault or their insurance companies for forensic medical exams. (Spectrum News 1)
- North Carolina is still working to recover from the impacts of storms related to Hurricane Ian. On Saturday, Governor Roy Cooper confirmed that four deaths in the state were related to the storm, three of which took place close to home in Johnston County. Damage assessments are beginning now to determine if expenses incurred by state and local governments warrant more federal assistance. (abc11)
- Raleigh's Page Farms reopened on Sunday after being forced to close due to the storms and subsequent damages. Page Farms operates seasonally so that residents can enjoy the pumpkin patch, corn maze and hayrides. Dozens of families were present as they reopened on Sunday morning and the Page family hopes that those who were impacted by the closure will come out another day. (CBS17)
- The Wake County Animal Center announced a special adoption campaign on Sunday for National Pit Bull Awareness Month. During the month of October, you can adopt any one of their 43 pit bulls for only $25. The month serves as an opportunity to combat the negative stereotype and false perceptions of pit bulls. According to the American Temperament Test Society, pit bulls are actually among the most tolerant dogs. (CBS17)
- The Band Together Mighty Giveback concert is coming to Red Hat Amphitheater on October 28, with a goal to raise $1 million. The event's goal is to support housing accessibility in the Triangle through live music and philanthropy. The event has 11 local nonprofits partnering together to help with housing stability.
