Happy Halloween Raleigh!

First, today's weather:

Breezy. High: 70 Low: 46.

Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:

  1. An 18-wheeler overturned in Raleigh on Saturday morning, sending the driver to the hospital. The driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the entrance of a subdivision around 7:00a m. The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. (CBS17)
  2. You might be lucky and catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights as far south as Raleigh today. Meteorologist Don Schwenneker says that to catch the glimpse you will want to look to the north along the horizon, away from the city lights. (abc11)
  3. Advocacy groups have moved to a lawsuit against the North Carolina General Assembly's proposed new boundaries for legislative seats. North Carolina's NAACP, Common Cause, and four individuals filed the lawsuit in Wake County court challenging the legislators' refusal to consider racial data or evaluate the presence of racially polarized voting. (The Times News, possibly paywalled content)
  4. Many special needs children were unable to be transported to school as their safety assistants joined the protest for better wages. Only about 15 of the 150 safety assistants in Wake County Public School System showed up to work on Friday, and without the safety assistants drivers were not allowed to transport the students. (WRAL)
  5. WakeMed's Sister Circle, a group of Black female WakeMed doctors looking to close the racial gap in COVID-19 vaccination rates, are gearing up to administer booster shots. The group is partnering with churches to target the most vulnerable to help get them the booster shots. (abc11)
