Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:
- A report released on Wednesday outlines the findings in the investigation into the death of Daniel Turcios. The report found that Turcios was armed, refused to let go of one of his children, and swung the knife at several officers. The report from District Attorney Lorrin Freeman cited the North Carolina Supreme Court stating "the calculus of reasonableness must allow for the fact that police officers are often forced to make split-second judgments in circumstances that are tense, uncertain and rapidly evolving." No charges will be filed against the officers involved. (abc11, CBS17, WRAL)
- In December 2021, the Raleigh City Council approved a measure allowing developers to build tiny homes in undeveloped lots. Now, Raleigh entrepreneur Zachary Milburn is looking to create a tiny home community for "digital nomads" on Rock Quarry Road. The concept is known as a "cottage court" and as companies like Amazon, Apple, Meta and Google plan to develop in the area, the homes would provide a co-living and co-working space for residents. (WRAL Tech Wire)
- Raleigh neighbors are concerned that a north Raleigh Airbnb is violating city ordinances. The Airbnb off of Torrey Pines Place has had multiple occurrences of late night gatherings and people drinking. The complaint came from a social media site and alleged that the property broke Airbnb rules including not having a permit, cars blocking the street and constant disruptions. If caught violating the ordinance, the homeowner could face penalties. (CBS17)
- Part of Wade Avenue near Glenwood Avenue was closed for several hours on Thursday morning due to a downed tree. The massive tree fell around 5 a.m. and the road was not reopened until 10 a.m., after crews cut the limbs down for removal. Raleigh police say that the tree fell naturally, and was not due to a crash. (CBS17, WRAL)
- A driver crashed into an office building in Raleigh on Wednesday night. The driver suffered minor injuries following the 11:30 p.m. crash at the building on Lake Woodard Drive. The 30-year-old driver was the only person involved and firefighters say that the crash caused no major structural damage to the building. (WRAL)

Are you a Raleigh resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?
Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.
Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.
Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
