🌱 Parade Cancelled Following Fatal Accident + Shaw Talks "Next Steps"
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Raleigh.

Happy Universal Children's Day Raleigh!
While I wish I could say that this article is filled with lots of joy, that is not the case. My heart goes out to the entire CC & Co. Dance Complex family as they process the events of yesterday, as well as all who were in attendance and witnessed it unfold. Below is all the details I could gather regarding the holiday parade tragedy, as well as:
- The Town Of Cary's possible social district
- KoreaFest returns for Day 2
- A shopper escorted out of Food Lion on Friday
But first, today's weather:
Partly sunny and chilly. High: 46 Low: 22.
Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:
- The Raleigh Christmas Parade was tragically cut short after a truck lost control and ran into a dance group during the parade. The driver attempted to alert those around, yelling out the window that he had lost control and could not stop the vehicle, but the loud music made it difficult for participants to hear. The truck hit one young girl, who in spite of life-saving efforts, died from her injuries. No other participants were injured, but the parade was cancelled as police investigated. The driver cooperated with detectives, and was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, careless and reckless driving, improper equipment, unsafe movement and carrying a firearm in a parade. - At least one Raleigh officer was injured in a foot chase that followed a head-on collision on Capital Boulevard on Friday night. Officers attempted to pull over two cars that were racing down Capital Boulevard, when one of them collided head-on with a police cruiser. One driver got away, and the other attempted to flee after crashing into two vehicles including the cruiser. During the attempt to flee, the driver hit a third car that disabled the vehicle, prompting a foot chase where police were able to arrest the suspect. According to police, the officer hurt their ankle after the chase. (WRAL)
- Although South Carolina Sheriffs recently released body camera footage from the Shaw University bus stop in early October, the university says that it plans to release the "next steps" it plans to take in the matter on Monday. Spartanburg County Sheriff Wright called University President Dillard's comments "slanderous and libelous," after releasing the footage and discussing their perspective. Shaw University said in an announcement on Friday, that a Monday news conference will share "additional details about the university's official findings and next steps." (CBS17)
- The Town of Cary is now among the municipalities considering implementing a social district. The Town Council met on Thursday, and Joy Ennis, the General Manager of the Downtown Cary Park pitched the idea. The map of the proposed district for Cary includes Downtown Cary Park, and extends to a few neighboring businesses. Initially the district would only include wine and beer consumption from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. if approved. Ennis says that the park requires a unique approach to alcohol consumption at the park due to ill-defined vertical boundaries. (CBS17)
- Clyde Cooper's Barbeque is making light out of the viral moment that took place earlier this month, and selling merchandise. The restaurant now has a variety of "pink meat" themed merchandise, including cups, stickers, and hoodies. The incident has been shared with a widespread audience, and owner Debbie Holt says they are shipping the merchandise all over the world, and have already received more than 4,200 orders. (WRAL)
