Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:
- Epic Games, developer of the popular game Fortnight, has revealed plans to turn the former site of Cary Town Center Mall into its new headquarters. The first phase of the project would be slated for completion in 2024 and would include an outdoor recreational area, a 200-room hotel, retail, parking, and more office spaces planned for later phases. Many who live in the area are concerned about traffic and loss of greenways in the area. (WRAL)
- Wake County Public Libraries has made the decision to pull the seven existing copies of the book 'Gender Queer' following vocal opposition from Lt. Governor Mark Robinson and others in the community. The two other books that have sparked controversy 'Lawn Boy' and 'George' will remain in the public libraries at this time within the adult collection. (abc11)
- Oberlin Middle School had a tumultuous Wednesday, as it was confronted with a possible gun on campus, a student with a knife, and an explicit video of students circulating. The rumor of a gun on campus turned out to be false and the knife was confiscated. School officials sent a letter to families to help refocus on learning, and ensure that if they receive the aforementioned video, it be deleted. (CBS17)
- A GoRaleigh bus driver is being recognized for her part in saving a toddler. Candace McDonald spotted the child standing alone outside one of her stops when she stopped to bring the child aboard. After offering her coat and contacting 9-1-1, the child was able to be reunited with family members. (abc11)
- U.S. Senator Thom Tillis announced on Tuesday that through the bipartisan infrastructure package, he secured more than $458 million to invest in North Carolina airports over the next five years. Raleigh-Durham International Airport will receive the second highest allocation of funds at $14,698,288. (Spectrum News 1)
