Tuesday was a big day for lawmakers in NC as business owners advocated for different types of legislation to support Raleigh’s growth and development. I’ve highlighted a few articles that will give you more info on what the Raleigh community is pushing for statewide as well as a few bits of information for us locally.

Here are the top 5 stories in Raleigh today
- A car accident has turned fatal along Glenwood Avenue. A woman driving overnight crashed into a tree. A passerby saw the accident early in the morning and called 911 who responded and found her body. (WRAL)
- NC State researchers are working to prevent diseases that could be spread through plants. The Irish potato famine of the 19th century killed a million people and that blight still exists today. They are hoping to globally connect new monitoring systems to maintain food security across the globe. (WNCT)
- Restaurant owners downtown are hoping to keep the outdoor dining experience that was a temporary solution during the pandemic, a more permanent option. One restaurant owner says that they are able to add about 25% capacity with the outdoor dining. It has already been approved to be extended until October 2021, but the city must weigh the impact on parking and accessibility before making a decision on permanence. (WRAL)
- On the anniversary of George Floyd’s death, The NC Senate and House have been circulating anti riot legislation. Many Raleigh business owners speak about the aftermath of those events and the damage done to their properties. (WUNC)
- New legislation has been introduced in NC to phase out income taxes by 2028. The bill would cut taxes for individual and corporate income tax, and would also raise the standard state tax deduction for dependents. (WRAL)

- Free Zumba Class: Laurel Hills is hosting a free Zumba class to combine dance and fitness. Register ahead of time to join the fun. (7pm-8pm)
- Free Acro Yoga at Pullen Park: Acro yoga combines yoga and acrobatics. This class welcomes all levels of yoga proficiency. (5:30pm-8:30pm)

- Red Hat Amphitheatre announced they are bringing back live music through $5 Thursdays running June 3 - July 1. (cbs17)
- The Carolina Hurricanes played game 5/7 against the Predators. If you're hoping to see this match up you will only have one more guaranteed opportunity to see them tomorrow night. If they are still tied going out of game 6, game 7 will be held Saturday.
