Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:
- On Saturday, Raleigh leaders discussed their plans for a strollway that would connect parts of Raleigh's history and got public feedback. The South Park Heritage Walk and Chavis-Dix Strollway would connect Chavis and Dix parks while taking residents past historic landmarks. Now that the project has secured funding via a $3 million federal grant, proposals are becoming more finite. (WRAL)
- Hundreds came out to Downtown Cary on Saturday, as Wake County law enforcement officers interacted with community members during Public Safety Day. More than a dozen agencies were represented and got to hear from community members and discuss plans on how to serve the community. Local school leaders were also present working to build a relationship between the youngest generation and law enforcement officers. (CBS17)
- Cary police are investigating an attempted robbery at a home on Bebington Drive. The homeowner caught the attempted break in on her home security camera, and believes it is part of an online social media trend. The video showed what appeared to be three young teens walking in the backyard, jumping on the trampoline and sitting on the family's patio furniture while laughing and recording their moves on a cellphone camera. At one point the teens damaged property and attempted to enter the home before leaving. (abc11)
- The American Kennel Club hosted an event at the State Fair Grounds on Saturday to promote responsible dog ownership. The event featured a variety of dog breeds, trainers and handlers. The event was free with food, activities and demonstrations, but owners were also able to get their pets microchipped at a discounted rate. (abc11)
- A downtown Raleigh street was closed Sunday after a driver struck and brought down a utility pole. The incident occurred just before 7:30 a.m., and part of South Blount Street was closed down into the morning. The road was closed for hours as Duke Energy worked to repair the utility pole. No one was injured in the crash. (CBS17)
