Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:

  1. The City of Raleigh has announced that for the second year, it will not host its Pullen Park Holiday Express celebration. City officials say they had to cancel the event due to staffing issues. (CBS17)
  2. The heavy thunderstorms that came through on Monday night caused power outages and localized flooding. The storms had wind gusts up to 60 mph, and the fire department had to to rescue one person trapped in a vehicle in floodwaters downtown. (WRAL)
  3. Students at Shaw University are demanding action after a mural of Breonna Taylor was defaced. The vandalism included graffiti of a US map, the words "Not Stolen. Conquered," and "Patriot Front," the name of a white supremacist group. (WRAL)
  4. A domestic disturbance led to shots being fired at a Raleigh apartment complex on Monday night. The gunfire was reported just after 10:20 pm and the stray gunfire hit a bystander as well as other vehicles in the area. (CBS17)
  5. Monday began the series of public comment sessions regarding the potential Congressional maps that have been made available. With Republican proposed maps giving as much as a predicted 11-3 advantage, the state Senate's Democratic leader said that if those maps are adopted, there will be an "absoluteness of lawsuits." (WNCT9)
