Meteor Shower + Carvana License Revoked + 3D Theatre to Reopen
Welcome to the Raleigh Daily! Here's your source for the most important things going on in Raleigh.

Happy Mountain Day,
Today I found some really exciting and unique things happening, from what NASA calls one of the best meteor showers of the year, to some legislation working its way through congress. There's that, events, and so much more below.
Today's weather, 8/11: Humid and partly cloudy throughout the day. High: 92 Low: 76.
Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:
- The Perseid meteor shower will be visible from NC this week, and you might catch a glimpse of the show starting today! NASA says this meteor shower will be one of the best of the year and will peak around dawn on Thursday and Friday. The meteors are from leftover particles of Comet 109p/Swift-Tuttle and bits from broken asteroids. The Perseids will be best viewed during pre-dawn hours, and you don't need any special equipment to catch the show. (abc11)
- If you are planning on attending any concerts in the near future, make sure you brush up on the venue's COVID-19 safety plans. With no statewide mandates on gathering requirements, venues have set their own precautions for safe gatherings. Some require vaccination cards and temperature checks, while others are keeping in place mask mandates. You'll want to know the policies before you head out, to avoid missing out. (CBS17)
- Late Monday night there was a shooting that led to the death of Robert Earl Taylor. Taylor was shot several times around 10:30 pm near the corner of Pettigrew and Boyner Street. When emergency responders arrived on scene Taylor was found laying outside and was rushed to the hospital where he passed away. Police have not identified a suspect yet and ask anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers. (WRAL)
- The NCDMV has revoked Carvana's dealer's license in Wake County until 2022. The Department of Motor Vehicles said it held an administrative hearing following a complaint and investigation regarding dealer licensing laws. The dealership failed to deliver titles to the department, sold motor vehicles without state inspection, and issued out-of-state temporary tags and plates for a vehicle sold in North Carolina. The suspension began August 2nd and will run through January 29, 2022, and during that time they can not partake in any sales and all of their vehicles are marked as "not for sale." (CBS17)
- Several pieces of important legislation to be aware of have made steps forward today. The proposed NC House Republican budget proposal has been released and will go to the full chamber on Thursday. (abc13) The second bill with momentum is the North Carolina sports gambling bill, that cleared another Senate committee on Monday. (WNCT9) The last notable piece of legislation I have for you is a bill that would repeal the practice of requiring residents to obtain permits from the local sheriff before buying a handgun. The Senate Judiciary Committee voted to recommend the measure on Tuesday. (US News)

Ok friends, that's all I have for today. The greatest thing about living in North Carolina, especially Raleigh, is that we are so close to beaches, mountains, and so much more. There's rarely a dull moment in our city and there's so much to take advantage of. I hope you all have an amazing Wednesday and I cant wait to catch you up again tomorrow.
