Happy Buffalo Soldiers Day,

Today we find out the aftermath of the Rottweiler attack on Sunday, hear predictions of what's to come with the Delta variant spreading, and some news to know about this coming month. Check out that, events, and some fun history and an investigation by WRAL reporters in the notebook.

Today's weather 7/28: Humid and partly cloudy throughout the day. High: 92 Low: 77.

Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:

  1. After an attack that resulted in four people being hospitalized, the two Rottweilers responsible are scheduled to be euthanized. Police have also confirmed that the owner and his two dogs were involved in two additional incidents back in 2019, including another biting. (CBS17) One of the victims of Sunday's attacks, Robert Neyland, has remained in the hospital for more than a day following the attack. Neyland's adult grandson was also a victim to the Rottweilers and reflects on their frightful experience. (Fox8)
  2. Three individuals including two men and one woman, were victims of a drive by shooting near downtown Raleigh. Officers responded to a shooting at East Martin and Bladen Street around 12:45 am Tuesday. When police arrived, no one was at the scene, however the individuals checked themselves into the hospital minutes later. The victims told police someone in a car shot them, but there is no suspect information available at this time. (CBS17)
  3. Based on current trend analysis, experts believe that COVID-19 infections likely won't be letting up until the fall. Pandemic forecasters predict that the worst of the Delta variant is yet to come. (WNCT9) A spokesperson for Governor Roy Cooper said on Monday that at this time he is not planning any additional statewide measures to curb the spread. (WNCT9)
  4. As back-to-school shopping amps up, retailers warn of supply-chain disruptions as a result of pandemic delays. Manufacturers and vendors are struggling to keep up with demand amid pandemic-related challenges, such as staffing and reliance on other stakeholders in similar situations. Chad Weisbrodt of Raleigh's The "Teach Me" Store says that things he ordered three-to-four weeks ago is selling as soon as it hits the floor, and replenishment may arrive right before back to school season. (abc11)
  5. A beloved Raleigh event has been canceled over concerns of the Delta variant's spread. Organizers of the Food Truck Rodeo expressed that they must assume that there could be highly contagious individuals in the crowd with the delta variant, and determined it was not worth the risk. Dr. Robin Peace of UNC Health Southeastern empathizes with people who crave a sense of normalcy, but recommends avoiding large scale events, and is glad the event was cancelled. Although the Food Truck Rodeo was cancelled, this coming weekend downtown is expected to see 25,000 people for GalaxyCon as well as additional crowds to see violinist Lindsey Stirling at Red Hat Amphitheatre.
