Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:
- One Raleigh family is now stuck in South Africa as travel restrictions are being put in place to prevent the new omicron coronavirus spread. Although President Biden's restrictions allow for Americans to return home, but with others unable to travel finding a flight is proving to be much easier said than done. (CBS17)
- Raleigh Police Department K9 Peppers competed in the United States Police Canine Association, Inc. Detection Dog Challenge. K9 Peppers won the Explosive Detection Dog division out of 10 canines, and was named the Overall Top Detection Dog out of 20 canines. (CBS17)
- The North Carolina State Controller, Linda Combs is asking the Court of Appeals to strike the order for $1.75 billion education funding. Combs believes that State Superior Court Judge W. David Lee has no jurisdiction over her office, since she is not a specifically listed party in the Leandro lawsuit that prompted the order. (WRAL)
- Earlier this year, the North Carolina General Assembly authorized a database that will track incidents in which police officers kill or injure someone in North Carolina. The database will be available to law enforcement agencies in order to help them weed out problem officers, but the database will not be made public in spite of police reform advocates push. (abc15)
- A fight broke out overnight at a sweepstakes parlor off New Bern Avenue, and led to a car chase and shooting. A man injured in the shooting was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The shooter is not in custody at this time. (WRAL)
