Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:
- Major airlines across the nation were forced to cancel flights ahead of Christmas due to the impacts of the omicron variant, but RDU operated with little impacts. Delta and United have been facing staffing shortages and canceled more than 100 flights each. RDU is hopeful that they won't see tremendous impacts though the holiday but if you are flying, check your flight status before leaving the house. (WRAL)
- On Thursday night a woman had to be taken to the hospital after being struck by a car downtown. Police said that the driver stayed at the scene but it is unknown if the driver will face charges at this time. (CBS17)
- Lines were long to receive COVID-19 tests ahead of the holiday, but with additional testing sites open to accommodate, Wake County was able to serve a record number of people. On Thursday, 12,322 people were tested, and Wake County has expected more than 13,000 tests daily. (CBS17)
- A film studio in southern Wake County is working on a documentary that follows the 2020 pandemic and North Carolina's response. Amazing Studios in Fuquay-Varina is working on the documentary called "stay at home" began in March as the stay-at-home order began. (North State Journal)
- State Representative Brian Turner has announced that he will not be running for re-election. He is speaking out about the "unsustainable" demands of serving in the State legislature as a part-time role. State legislators in North Carolina earn a base salary of only $13,591 and there is no limit to regular legislative session length. (WNCT9)
