Happy National Color Day Raleigh!

Before we get started, I want to make sure I remind anyone considering college next year, today is the last day to apply to many NC colleges and universities for free with the College Foundation of NC's Countdown to College.

First, today's weather:

Rather cloudy, showers around. High: 77 Low: 53.

Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:

  1. After two weeks of mapmaking, NC senators have presented proposals on how they could redraw congressional or state Senate district lines. The Senate Redistricting Committee posted several maps online that were produced at computer terminals. Before any votes are taken on plans, the House and Senate committees will hold hearings to hear citizen comments. Many of the Republican-favored proposals would have Wake and Mecklenburg counties divided into three or more districts. (Spectrum News 1)
  2. Residents in the South Raleigh Renaissance Park neighborhood were blindsided when the homeowners association announced they will not allow renters in the community. If renters do not vacate or receive one of the "narrow exceptions," homeowners will be fined $100 a day.(CBS17) This change has come as The Triangle is experiencing a lack of availability of homes in the area. (CBS17)
  3. Local police are investigating two shootings on Wednesday. The first incident happened at around 3:45 pm on Western Boulevard near Gorman Street, and left one injured. (CBS17) The second was around 7:00 pm in a Cary apartment complex, and left one victim dead and another hospitalized with serious injuries. (WRAL)
  4. Only a week after calling off the Christmas parade in Garner, the city has announced that the parade will take place for the first time since 2018. The city announced via Facebook that thanks to the Town of Garner, Garner Fire & Rescue, The Garner PD, and other residents, the parade will take place on Main Street on December 18. (WRAL)
  5. State budget talks have gone on for months, and state entities are becoming more frustrated with the delays. With "unprecedented resources" through federal stimulus money, North Carolina's multibillion-dollar surplus, and the rapidly changing economy, state employees are desperate for some information. Ardis Watkins, the executive director of the State Employees Association of NC says, "The longer this drags out, the more the expectation is." (WNCT9)
