Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:
- An accidental sprinkler activation caused flooding at the North Carolina State University Metcalf Residence Hall. More than 400 students had to find other sleeping arrangements after being evacuated due to the incident. The residence hall will now have to remain closed through the Thanksgiving break. (WRAL)
- Wake County EMS has been understaffed and overworked for many months, but now they are facing a surge of additional callers. Chief Brian Brooks says that with schools shut down due to COVID, the students didn't graduate and they are facing a skills shortage. (abc11)
- Tonight at 7:00 pm, Raleigh City Council member David Knight will be hosting a listening session with Police Chief Estella Patterson. Chief Patterson will discuss her vision for the Raleigh Police Department and observations from her time in role. Following her remarks, there will be a question answering piece. (CBS17)
- Former State Senator Erica Smith has launched her campaign to represent North Carolina's Second Congressional District in the US House of Representatives that includes a large portion of Wake County. Her campaign video titled "Faith" shares her personal story and vision for North Carolina. Smith's campaign will be a people-powered campaign that will not receive large corporate PAC or fossil fuel industry donations. (Caswell Messenger)
- Some schools in Wake County are beginning to offer COVID-19 tests to students and staff members on campus. Testing is expected to expand to all schools in 2022 and tests are voluntary. (WRAL)
- Michelle Prather Servary and her two sons were found safe, almost a full day after they were reported missing. (WRAL)
