Welcome to the Raleigh Daily! Here's your source for the most important things going on in town.

Happy National Pulled Pork Day,

I have a round up of news about controversial comments, anti-discrimination policies, and some awesome resources free to Wake County entrepreneurs. Check out that, events, and more below.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny and humid. High: 79 Low: 61.

Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:

  1. The heavy storms on Saturday had a lasting affect on Raleigh roads. Several roads remained closed on Sunday, and the two-lane ramp on US1 and 1010 Road will hopefully be reopened today. Crews also need to make calculations to determine if Campbell Road will need a new pipe or if the one that broke on Saturday can be fixed. (CBS17)
  2. Controversy surrounded a scheduled news conference outside of Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson's office last night. LGBTQ leaders and community members are laying out demands following remarks he made months ago describing teaching sexuality in schools as "filth." The Lt. Governor doubled down on his comments stating "We are not talking about the fight for equality... What I'm talking about are the intimate details." (abc11, WRAL)
  3. Wake County leaders are set to discuss anti-discrimination policies this week. The Wake County Board of Commissioners Chair Matt Calabria says that the policy will prohibit discrimination in the workplace and public accommodations based on race, gender, sexual orientation, and other identities. Wake County does not currently have its own anti-discrimination policy, and federal rules only apply to businesses over a certain size. The proposal does not cover religious organizations or bathrooms and locker rooms. (CBS17, abc11)
  4. Wake Tech has a new StartUp Center that is giving entrepreneurs access to free resources. For residents of Wake County, you can access all kinds of training to help hire, get finances in order, or find access to capital. You can check out some of the resources available here.(Spectrum News 1)
  5. The North Carolina State Fair is only days away, opening at noon on Thursday. We've been hearing buzz about all that is coming over the last few weeks. As it approaches Spectrum put together a recap of ticket cost, new foods, new rides, and directions. (Spectrum News 1)
