Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:
- Raleigh police officer Kevin Rodriguez was taken into custody by DEA agents on Wednesday after selling cocaine to an informant during a federal investigation. Officer Rodriguez was on duty, in uniform, in his patrol vehicle when he arrived to sell $2,600 worth of cocaine. The arrest came after confidential sources in late 2021 gave information that Rodriguez was distributing drugs to the community. (WBTW)
- A video that shows firsthand the competition in the Raleigh housing market has gone viral. The video taken by realtor Monique Edwards shows the scene outside a Lafferty Court three-bedroom, three-bath home listed at $260,000. (CBS17) It's not surprising that the home received such a turn out, new data shows that one in four Raleigh homes are being purchased by investors. (WRAL TechWire) People looking to find homes are frustrated with high home values, but others seeking to refinance are questioning bias within the home appraisal industry. (abc11)
- The suspects in a string of robberies in Wake County have now been linked to five robberies total. The incidents happened in Raleigh, Cary, and Morrisville with no injuries reported. The FBI is now stepping in to help the investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Raleigh Police or 911. (abc11)
- North Carolina is one of two finalists in a bid to host the 2027 World University Game according to the sponsor website on Wednesday. If North Carolina is selected, Raleigh and Greensboro would host university athletes from over 150 countries competing n a 2-week long event. The state is competing with South Korean provinces to earn the bid. (CBS17)
- Candidate filing for the 2022 elections resumed Thursday morning, less than 24 hours after new redistricting maps were selected. Senate Leader Phil Berger said that they do not approve of the interim Congressional map and will be seeking a stay of that map, but also expressed it is time to move on and allow filing.
