Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:

  1. On Tuesday night the Wake County Board of Education approved a plan that would provide bonuses to full-time and some part-time employees in the school system following the cafeteria worker sick-out. The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction must still approve the use of the funds, and the increase would be effective as of today. (WRAL) Governor Cooper has announced that he plans to sign the new North Carolina budget that includes a $15 per hour pay floor for school employees that aren't teachers beginning next year. (WSOC-TV)
  2. The Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC is feeling additional constraints headed into this holiday season. Supply-chain issues have affected the food bank, and partner agencies are seeing about a 35% rise in people needing help. The abc11 Together Food Drive runs from November 20 through December 8, and hopes to provide 1.7 million meals. (abc11)
  3. The North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival is returning to Cary after being cancelled last year during the pandemic. The festival kicks off tomorrow and runs through January 9 at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre. (Spectrum News 1)
  4. Two minors have been charged with murder in the shooting of a 19 year old at a Raleigh park on Tuesday night around 7:35 pm. Police have not released any details on what led up to the shooting and the suspects names will not be released due to their age. (CBS17)
  5. NC wildlife officials are warning Triangle residents to keep their distance around deer. Studies have shown deer are testing positive for COVID-19 or antibodies. It's not currently known if deer can pass the virus to people, but it is believed that humans have given it to deer, and officials urge precaution and distance between wildlife. (CBS17)
