🌱 SCOTUS Leak Prompts Rally + 4th Man Charged in Raleigh Trafficking

Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:

  1. On Tuesday night, hundreds were out in downtown Raleigh to protest the potential reversal of the Roe Vs. Wade Supreme Court decision. Raleigh police were present blocking downtown streets as marchers circled several blocks peacefully. The march stopped outside of the capitol while demonstrators chanted, "Defend abortion. Today. Tomorrow!" Pro-life groups were also present downtown on Tuesday, welcoming the potential end to the 50-year precedent. (abc11, CBS17, WRAL)
  2. A Youngsville man is the fourth charged in a Raleigh human trafficking case. Authorities allege that the group held a 16-year-old woman in a hotel room where they took advantage of her, took photos of her and trafficked her to others. David McMoore is being held in a jail in Wake County on a $10 million bond and faces multiple counts of human trafficking and rape. (WRAL)
  3. On Wednesday, thousands of students, parents, teachers and elected officials celebrated Walk, Bike and Roll to School Day. The annual program from NCDOT is celebrated across the state, and many schools across the Triangle participated. Nationally, around 10% of students walk or bike to school, but in Wake County it is closer to 5% of students. (abc11, WRAL)
  4. Raleigh has ranked third among the best U.S. cities for senior citizens. The research by Aging in Place analyzed 50 cities in the U.S. taking into consideration the percent of the population over 65, safety, estimated cost of living, and more. Around 10.6% of the current Raleigh population is 65 and older and 12.6% are living below the poverty line. Charlotte also ranked in the study at number 9. (WNCT9)
  5. The Got to Be NC Festival is set to return to the Raleigh fairgrounds for the first time after a two-year pandemic hiatus. The festival will feature North Carolina products, the state's food products and entertainment. North Carolina distilleries will also be showcased at the festival for the first time along with 75 other companies. (abc11)
