Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:
- Business owners in downtown are struggling as the Seaboard Station development is limiting parking in the area. Foot traffic has dwindled in the area, as construction began six months ago. Employees of area businesses have struggled to find parking and often have to settle for two-hour parking spots, for their 8-hour shifts. Businesses have attempted to contact the city, but they have gotten no response. (abc11)
- After the charges against State Auditor Beth Wood were announced publicly, the owner of the vehicle that was hit is sharing his story. Chris Valverde said that his daughter was at work when her co-workers told her that there was another car on top of Valverde's vehicle. According to court documents, Wood hit the parked car in a way that left the state owned vehicle partially on the hood of Valverde's car. Raleigh police were not able to find the driver when they got to the scene, however they did locate a laptop in the car with the last person who looked on identified as "Miss Beth Wood." Wood has declined to comment on the crash and is referring all questions to her lawyer. (CBS17, WRAL)
- An employee at a North Raleigh McDonald's restaurant was shot on Friday night. Coworkers helped their wounded colleague by taking him to safety in the store's cooler. Officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, but they say there is no ongoing threat to the public. The injured employee was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. (abc11, CBS17, WRAL)
- A massive fire broke out at a Raleigh office complex late on Friday night. Just after 10 p.m., the fire broke out at the complex on Logger Court. The fire was reported under control just before 10:45 p.m., and no one was inside the building at the time of the fire. Investigators have not found anything suspicious about the fire but the investigation remains open. (abc11, CBS17, WRAL)
- Hundreds of motorcyclists travelled along US 1 in Wake County on Saturday afternoon. According to Raleigh police, the motorcyclists gathered on Capital Boulevard on Saturday afternoon to rally in memorial for someone who died.
