The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Raleigh.

Good Morning Raleigh, It's National Cancer Awareness Day!
I want to start this week off by reminding you to create joy. I swear, sometimes I get so caught up between working, taking care of my kids, and trying to keep the house clean and I forget to spend time bringing myself joy. I love to bake and don't remember the last time I baked something just because. So I'm reminding you, and myself, to slow down a bit. Give time to yourself and create your own joy. Before you get going on that, catch up on everything Raleigh below, including:
- The Veteran's Day Parade and Operation Green Light are upcoming.
- A silent book club for you readers
- Brier Creek's newest planned addition
But first, today's weather:
Partial sunshine. High: 82 Low: 53.

Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:
- Raleigh and Fayetteville hosted annual Veterans Day parades on Saturday to honor veterans ahead of Veteran's Day. Raleigh's parade took place downtown and had a ceremony after the parade concluded. More than 80 organizations were featured in the parade. The special ceremony honored veterans from World War II, the Korean War, the Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom eras. Wake County veterans are also hoping the event brings light to the state's new Operation Green Light program. To participate you only need to put up a green lightbulb in your porch light today through November 13 in support of veterans. (abc11, CBS17)
- Outgoing Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker has released a farewell letter to the community ahead of his retiring from the sheriff's office on December 1. Baker has worked with the sheriff's office in different capacities since May 11, 1990, and will be retiring after losing the primary runoff election against Willie Rowe. Baker's letter said, "from that date until the forthcoming retire date, I have satisfaction in knowing that my commitment, dedication and professionalism, along with integrity and accountability has always been primary as pertains to serving this county through this office." (abc11)
- Following allegations of sexual abuse against Cheer Extreme in Raleigh, Wake County cheerleaders are banned from competing in competitions under Varsity Spirit. The Wake County Public School System banned school athletes from the competitions. Since doing so, an online petition has gathered more than 300 signatures to allow them to compete. The allegations against Raleigh's Cheer Extreme is one of several lawsuits claiming abuse by coaches across the organization. (WNCT9)
- On Friday night, the Dollar General on West Raleigh Boulevard was the scene of an armed robbery. The suspect carried a handgun, entered the store and demanded money from the register. Officers arrived around 10 p.m. Nobody suffered injuries from the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Raleigh Crime Stoppers. (RockyMountTelegram)
- The North Carolina Supreme Court weighed in on the Leandro funding case on Friday. The ruling sent the case to a trial court, ruling that a local judge does have the power to transfer taxpayer dollars from government coffers to state agencies in order to address education inequities. The ruling was 4 to 3 in favor of upholding the lower court's decision. The trial court is expected to recalculate how much funding should be allocated. (abc11, WXII12)
