Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:

  1. One woman was killed and four others injured in a Sunday evening fire at the Six Forks Station apartment complex in Raleigh. On Monday morning authorities confirmed that a disabled woman died from her injuries at WakeMed Hospital. An electrical malfunction was the cause of the fire that began downstairs. (WRAL)
  2. Three individuals are facing major charges for unrelated instances in Raleigh.
    1. A 19-year-old man is facing felony charges after breaking into Leesville Road Middle School and stealing a bus. During the theft, the bus was damaged along with a school fence. Bryson Scott Wilson faces a variety of charges from Raleigh police and Highway Patrol. (CBS17)
    2. An 18-year-old has been charged with murder in connection to the death of Demetrice Dorell Johnson on Sunday evening. Jesus Alegre-Ramirez was charged and scheduled to appear in court. (WRAL)
    3. Elio Hernandez who was arrested in connection to five robberies earlier this month, is facing additional charges after attempting to escape from jail on Saturday. (CBS17)
  3. As part of the N.C. Governor's Highway Safety Program, law enforcement will be increasing patrols until March 20. The increase is meant to catch St. Patrick's Day partiers, and there will be several checkpoints along busy routes. A driving while impaired charge could result in jail time, loss of license, and an average of $10,000 in fines and fees. (abc11)
  4. According to a report from the State Auditor, the NC Division of Employment Security failed to issue $438 million in first unemployment benefit payments in a timely manner. According to the report, only about 60% of first time payments were issued within the federal standard for timeliness, 14 days following the claim. The auditor recommended DES review its claims process as the last 10 years have not met the federal standards. (abc11)
