Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:

  1. Hospitals are seeing an increase in snake bites this year with 27 patients treated at WakeMed in July. A Cary family is warning to keep your garage tidy, clear of cardboard, plywood and other coverings, after a copperhead bit their 9-year-old daughter after hiding in their garage. Most major hospitals will carry anti-venom in the Triangle, but without insurance it can cost $50,000 to $200,000. (WRAL)
  2. Members of the North Carolina Green Party rallied outside of the federal courthouse in Raleigh on Monday, feeling "vindicated" after a judge ruled the state must allow the party's candidates to be on the ballot in November. State election officials initially refused to certify the party this summer amid a fraud investigation. The party has spent months fighting to give voters another political option. On Monday, party leaders also expressed the possibility of grounds for a lawsuit against Democrats, but it is unclear if it will pursue the suit. (CBS17, WNCT9)
  3. The full schedule and lineup for the fall's IBMA Bluegrass LIVE! street festival in downtown Raleigh is out. The festival will be held September 30 and October 1, and will included ticketed and free main stage performances. Along with the music, there will be a curated Arts Market from Artsplosure and Black Friday Market. The Raleigh non-profit PineCone produces the festival each year, and it is a part of the International Bluegrass Music Association's World of Bluegrass from September 27-October 1. (WRAL)
  4. At least two people were taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle crash in Raleigh near Interstate 440 on Monday night. The crash was reported around 10:10 p.m. along New Bern Avenue at I-440. Eastbound lanes were closed following the incident that occurred when a Honda was turning left onto an I-440 access ramp. There were no life-threatening injuries. (CBS17)
  5. A jury has deliberated and unanimously found Nancy Errichetti not guilty in charges of aiding and abetting, taking indecent liberties with a child, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Errichetti was the former headmistress of the Montessori School of Raleigh, while Nicholas Smith was responsible for abusing children. Investigators said she knew about some of the instances and failed to act, potentially putting other students at risk. Erichetti's defense argued she was unaware of any physical assault, and said she should not be criminally responsible. (abc11, WRAL)
