🌱 Speed Trap Leads to 44 Citations + Wake Tech's Hendrick Center Open

Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:

  1. On Tuesday morning, Raleigh police and the North Carolina Highway Patrol partnered together for a speed enforcement project on the Gorman Street corridor. The speed trap led to 69 traffic stops over the course of the morning, and the department issued 44 citations. The N.C. Governor's Highway Safety Program's "Speed a Little, Lose a Lot" program is running through Sunday. (CBS17)
  2. Two teens were taken to the hospital following separate incidents of gun violence on Tuesday:
  • The first incident occurred just before 6:00 pm on New Hope Townes Drive off of New Bern Avenue. When officers arrived they found an 18-year-old with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. (abc11)

  • The second took place outside of Zack's Grocery Mart on New Bern. The teen sustained a wound to the head and was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. On Wednesday police said that the victim was still alive but remains in the hospital with serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing. (abc11, CBS17)

  • 3. Raleigh Police are investigating a robbery and stabbing that occurred on Tuesday night. The incident happened just after 10:30 pm near Rock Quarry Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. One person was taken to the hospital for treatment, but police said there was not an active search for a suspect as of Tuesday night. (WRAL)

    4. Wednesday, Wake Tech opened its new Hendrick Center for Automotive Excellence. The new training center is open to students interested in careers in the automotive industry as the field faces a growing need. Leaders at Wake Tech hope the facility will allow them to triple the number of students in Wake Tech's automotive systems technology program and adding a new degree program in collision repair.     5. The Heights House in the downtown Boylan Heights neighborhood has made the list of the world's 100 best new hotels. The Heights House is one of only 35 properties in the United States to be featured on the global list. The list was announced on Wednesday by Travel + Leisure. (CBS17)
