Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:
- Raleigh Beer Garden hosted a St. Baldrick's Day fundraiser to raise money for childhood cancer research on Saturday. Amidst all the weekend excitement, families gathered to shave their heads and raise money for pediatric cancer patients. (abc11)
- North Carolina State University officials are investigating a sexual assault that took place on Saturday after the two met at the Dreamville Festival. Authorities reported the incident that took place on the property of the Cherry Building on Dix Campus at 8:50pm. The suspect is described as 6-foot-1, slender, with close/cropped hair, and was last seen running back towards the music festival. (CBS17, WRAL)
- Wake County Public School System announced the passing of Millbrook High School Principal Dana King on Saturday. King became principal back in 2003, and was named Wake County's Principal of the Year in 2010. WCPSS sent an email to staff expressing sympathy to family and the school community. (abc11)
- Mount Zion Church in Raleigh had hundreds of visitors on Saturday as they hosted a Gas Giveaway. The first 200 cars were given a full tank of gas and their windows washed. Pastor Joseph Frierson said that the giveaway was for anyone in need of help. (WRAL)
- Knightdale officials canceled the second night of their Special Olympics Spring Carnival after shots were fired during the event on Saturday. While officials were working to break up a fight between carnival-goers, shots were fired in a nearby parking lot. Police say a 16-year-old was grazed by the bullet and was taken to WakeMed for treatment. (WRAL)
