Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:
- After a two year hiatus, the St. Patrick's Day parade returned to Downtown Raleigh. In spite of inclement weather and a starting delay, hundreds turned out to line the streets and enjoy the festivities. (CBS17, abc11)
- A Walmart in north Raleigh was placed on lockdown after one person was injured in a shooting on Saturday evening. The shooting was first reported by a Durham City Council member via Facebook at 5:31 pm. Nearly an hour later, Raleigh police confirmed an hour later that the shooting had occurred at 5:25 pm in the parking lot of the Glenwood Avenue location. The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. (CBS17, abc11)
- Dominion Realty Partners announced on Friday that they closed on land to build two different 20-story mixed use towers in downtown. This project will be its fourth downtown Raleigh project. DRP Chairman and CEO Andy Andrews says that, "This project will be monumental not only for our company, but for the city of Raleigh." (WRAL)
- According to an analysis by Redfin, Raleigh is among the metro areas with the highest rates of bidding wars in real estate transactions. Raleigh homebuyers have to be more competitive than ever, as 75% of all home sales are involving competing offers, putting Raleigh in the Number 9 spot. (FOX8)
- As the 2022 midterm elections loom on the horizon, it's no wonder North Carolina is a highly contested battleground state. A look at voter registration data from the N.C. State Board of Elections shows that unaffiliated voters outnumber identified Republicans, Democrats and Libertarians. Wake County is home to 318,466 unaffiliated voters, nearly 288,000 registered Democrats, and more than 179,000 Republicans. (WCNC)
