Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:

  1. Governor Roy Cooper issued a State of Emergency ahead of the extreme temperatures expected this week. The order activates the state's emergency operations plan, waives transportation regulations to help transport critical supplies, helps first responders and protects consumers from price gouging. Cold temperatures are expected to come to North Carolina on Friday and continue through the holiday weekend. (WBTV, WFMY)
  2. The State Bureau of Investigation has ended its procedural criminal investigation into officers involved in the shootout with the 15-year-old Hedingham suspect. The determination comes following Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman's determination on Monday. Crime scene evidence found that rounds fired by law enforcement did not strike the teen and his injuries were self-inflicted. (AP News, WITN)
  3. Raleigh Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a person believed to be involved in a shooting that took place on December 12. Police shared a photo of the subject in connection to the shooting into an occupied business on South East Street. Anyone who may have information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact Raleigh Crimestoppers. (CBS17, WNCT9, WRAL)
  4. On Wednesday night, a Raleigh mother asked the community for help creating a drive-by parade for her 3-year-old daughter Jaielle. Wednesday marked the completion of Jaielle's radiation treatment for her rare form of incurable brain caner. She asked the community to join them in a car parade for her daughter at the corner of Perry Stone and Patriot Ridge Courts in Raleigh to show her daughter the love and support behind her. (CBS17, FOX8)
  5. A driver was killed on Tuesday night after his car lost control on I87-N. The driver, Jorge Ortega Jr., was found dead in the car due to injuries sustained in the crash. No other passengers were present and no other vehicles appeared to be involved in the accident. The crash remains under investigation, but preliminary reports believe Ortega was travelling at a high speed and lost control of the vehicle. (abc11, WNCT9, WRAL)
