If you haven't caught on yet, I'm a bit of a foodie. Just the thought of it being National Pastry Day has me wanting to grab my wallet and go explore and find somewhere new to try. Below, you'll find out my personal favorite Raleigh pastry shop, as well as some honorable mentions. Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:
- North Carolina State University Police received a report of sexual battery on Wednesday evening. The incident was reported at Wolf Village Apartments at 8:12 p.m. According to police, the victim is not a student and they do not have enough information to confirm the suspect's affiliation with the university. The suspect has not been identified or apprehended. This is the second sexual assault surrounding NCSU in a four-day period. (abc11, CBS17, WRAL)
- A Raleigh bank teller is facing 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing customer account information. Davia Delores Lockley participated in a scheme to defraud banks and their customers by identifying accounts with significant funds and no customer photo on file. Court documents say that between January 2021 and June 2021, Lockley compromised the accounts of at least six bank customers. (CBS17)
- A North Carolina State University student and her sister have been named among the 2023 Forbes 30 under 30 list. Ritika Shamdasani is a student in the Wilson College of Textiles. With her older sister Niki, they co-founded Sani. The brand is a South Asian-inspired formal wear and loungewear brand. The sisters say their goals are to make South Asian clothing a part of mainstream fashion. Their clothes have been worn by celebrity Mindy Kaling. (abc11, WRAL)
- Another Wake County school went into lockdown, after a sixth grader fired a gun inside of a classroom. Authorities say that the threat was not directed at any specific student or staff. Students at Fuquay-Varina Middle School were dismissed after the incident that took place before classes began. No one was injured as a language arts teacher and the assistant principal intervened and prevented any further damage. (WBTV, WRAL)
- One of the most controversial topics in Raleigh has been the 2021/2022 changes to the City's zoning codes. The "missing middle" changes allow for alternative housing types like duplexes, townhomes and small apartments. Beginning in January 2023, the City of Raleigh will host events related to zoning changes, housing affordability and sustainable growth. The list of events features one virtual setting, as well as events in each of the city's districts. (RaleighNC.Gov)
