  1. City leaders are discussing recommendations to help curb crime in the Glenwood South area. Concerns for the area have been growing as crime has been steadily increasing, and just days after a California nightlife area mass shooting, city leaders talked about possible improvements. There has been a large number of weapons violations, and talks of metal detector installations are being discussed among other efforts. (abc11)
  2. Officials with the City of Raleigh's Parks and Recreation Department say that 40% of all part-time jobs are vacant. The staffing shortage has caused attractions at Pullen Park to remain closed, pool hours planned to be reduced, and summer camps with the possibility of limiting availability. In an effort to attract more applicants, the city is increasing part-time wages in the department by $3. (WRAL)
  3. A 10-year-old boy was taken to WakeMed Raleigh after a crash on Tuesday night. There is no word on the extent of the boy's injuries, but according to the police he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Three cars were involved in the crash and authorities say no one else was injured. (WRAL)
  4. As the Raleigh Iron Works construction continues and is scheduled to be completed before the end of the year, surrounding business owners are excited for the areas potential. Matt Davis who owns Mister Pompadour Barber Lounge says that the area has been a bit of a dead space in downtown, but you can already see a lot of growth in the area. There is also talks among city leaders regarding a potential pedestrian bridge in the area to bring even more foot traffic. (CBS17)
  5. The High Path Avian Influenza was first detected in North Carolina last Wednesday, and now it has spread to multiple farms across the state. More than 77,000 commercial birds have been affected already, and test results are pending at three Wayne County locations that could affect nearly 300,000 more birds. Although the avian flu has not been known to be transmitted through food consumption, there could be some impact to pricing due to supply chain issues. (abc11)
