Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:
- Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson and city officials met with business owners and residents of the Glenwood South area to discuss concerns. The Glenwood South Neighborhood Collaborative sponsored the meeting and the Raleigh Police Department discussed some of what they are doing to keep the area safe. The focus is keeping the social district vibrant while avoiding a "catastrophe." (CBS17, WRAL)
- Rodney Vaughn Stotts Jr., 27, has been arrested in the Tuesday night shooting at a Raleigh apartment complex. The shooting led to the death of 22-year old Geovanni Emilio Valero, after he was transported to the hospital. Stotts Jr. was taken to the Wake County Detention Center and is being held without bond. (CBS17, WRAL)
- A forklift crashed through the roof of a Cary townhome on Wednesday. Cary officials say that a roofing company overloaded the machine while replacing shingles on the townhomes, causing the hydraulic line to fail, tipping the forklift over. No one was injured although the homeowner was inside at the time of the incident, and he was able to stay inside his home. (WRAL)
- Thieves stole $1,500 worth of gas from the Cheers convenience store on Langston Pond Drive in Cary on Thursday. The store owner shared security video from around 5:30 a.m. when the store was still closed. Yogesh "Yogi" Monocha believes that a truck with a trailer attached is the getaway vehicle, but Cary police have not confirmed that the vehicle in the video is the one they are searching for. (abc11)
- The Raleigh Police Department is searching for the suspect in a May 8 assault on Hillsborough Street. Photos captured on surveillance cameras show the suspect, and they are asking for the public's help identifying him. The assault took place on Hillsborough Street just before 2 a.m. (CBS17)
