- Early voting has ended and Tuesday will be the last opportunity for voters to weigh in on the mid-term elections. Voting sights were "a madhouse" with long lines as voters came out for the last day of early voting with most Wake County sites reporting two-hour wait times on Saturday afternoon. The in-person early voting period concluded on Saturday at 3 p.m. and prior to Saturday, the North Carolina State Board of Elections was already reporting 1.97 million votes cast either in person or by mail, representing around 27% of registered voters. - A Raleigh teenager is sharing her experience after she had to jump out of a moving vehicle to escape an unsettling Lyft ride. According to the alleged victim, she got into the Lyft after work around 9 p.m. on Tuesday. While inside the car, the driver commented on her appearance and kept spraying something in the car, and after the fourth spray, she began feeling sleepy. Bowden says that she cried and yelled, but the driver would not let her out. She was eventually able to get the door open and jump out on Fox Road, where the driver "pretended to be a bystander and called the police for her." Lyft issued a statement regarding the incident and said that the driver's access to the platform has been removed and they are prepared to assist law enforcement in any way. (abc11, WRAL)
- On Friday, the second biannual Day of Care was held in downtown Raleigh to connect people experiencing homelessness with necessary resources. Thirty-one organizations were present. They set up in tents with services at Moore Square Park. Darlene McClain, a social service specialist with the Downtown Raleigh Alliance said that providers were excited to be present and came ready to give. The next Day of Care has not been officially scheduled but will take place in the first half of 2023. (Spectrum News 1)
- New data released on Friday is showing violent crime on the rise in Raleigh. The trend has been present across the nation, and Raleigh is no exception. Chief of Police Estella Patterson pointed to several potential solutions including intelligence-led policing and engaging and partnering with the community. (abc11) In the same night that data was released, Raleigh experienced another homicide after a fight between among three women ended with one woman in the hospital and another killed. (abc11, CBS17)
- Raleigh saw two fatal crashes between Friday night and Saturday morning:
- A 91-year-old woman died at the hospital after being struck by a car while riding her mobility scooter on Friday afternoon. The woman was attempting to cross the street during her grocery trip, when she was hit. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. There was no indication of impairment. The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been made at this time. (CBS17, WBTW, WRAL)
- A driver was killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 540 early on Saturday morning. Police were called to the scene near Exit 7 and Glenwood Avenue. Investigators say that Roberto Erasmo Bartolon-Mendez was driving a Honda CRV the wrong way in westbound lanes and crashed into a BMW535i. Bartolon-Mendez died at the scene.
