Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:
- Brian Davis moved from Connecticut back down to Raleigh after a tumultuous year. After living in the area for 7 months, he decided to open his home to people with nowhere to go this Thanksgiving. He ended up receiving 400+ responses, and inviting four strangers to his home for the holiday yesterday. (abc11)
- A couple from Farmville has donated $7 million to Saint Mary's School in Raleigh to support the construction of a new academic science building. Henry and Tracey Smith's daughter Hannah graduated from the school in 2012, and because of their daughters connections, they made the largest donation in the school's 180 year history. (Reflector)
- UNC Rex Healthcare has made the decision to close their Wellness Center in Garner in order to convert it into a new surgical site. UNC Rex released a statement saying that the surgery center will provide much needed surgical services to the region, but many who frequent the wellness center are disappointed that they will no longer have a close to home place to go. (WRAL)
- The Carolina Hurricanes delivered 1,000 turkeys to local ministries ahead of Thanksgiving. The 1,000 turkeys were provided thanks to contributions from the Hurricane's Tickets for Turkeys campaign. (abc11)
- The surge of refugees from Afghanistan in the Triangle is revealing the severity of the housing issues in the area. Local churches and organizations are stepping up to try and locate permanent housing, but another surge of people in need of housing is expected after Thanksgiving. (Spectrum News 1)
