The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Raleigh.

Happy World Introvert Day Raleigh!
I don't know about you, but I feel like I'm still trying to catch up on sleep from New Years, and I didn't even make it until midnight. I suppose that's why it's the perfect day to celebrate introverts and decompress after so much socialization. Take some time to enjoy solitude and catch up on everything you might have missed, including:
- Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian on NYE.
- Trivia at West Street Dog
- A reminder of where to get a no-cost COVID-19 test.
But first, today's weather:
Partly sunny. High: 62 Low: 51.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Raleigh who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our readers to local businesses they need to know. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:
- Thousands of people came out to downtown Raleigh to celebrate New Year's Eve in spite of rainy weather. The night featured multiple indoor venues with performances to shield people from the rain, and around 7 p.m. the rain wrapped up. Families got to enjoy the acorn drop and fireworks display around 7 p.m., and more enjoyed the festivities long enough to enjoy the acorn drop at midnight. Event attendees shared in their new year's resolutions and hopes for the future. (CBS17, WRAL)
- On Saturday night, a neighborhood road was closed for about three hours while police investigated a pedestrian crash. The incident took place just before 6:30 p.m. on Pearl Road off of Rock Quarry. Crime scene tape was blocking off the street, and law enforcement said that one person was dead at the incident site. According to witnesses, the body was already laying in the road before being hit by a Dodge Ram. It is unclear if the victim died due to injuries sustained before the Dodge Ram was present or if those injuries killed them. (CBS17, WRAL)
- The Raleigh Fire Department is investigating after a fire destroyed a mobile home early Sunday morning. Crews were dispatched at 7:35 a.m. and were able to extinguish the fire, but fire and smoke appears to have destroyed the home. Fire officials said that no one was injured in the fire, and the cause of the fire is still unknown. (CBS17)
- The Cary Police Department responded to reports of gunshots on Saturday night at a New Year's Eve Party. Police arrived at the party and discovered reports of gunshots were actually fireworks. No one was injured in the party near Highcroft Pool on Highcroft Drive. The party was wrapped up as of 11:15 p.m. (WRAL)
- Raleigh Police have arrested one man in connection to a late night shooting on Saturday night. Around 11:19 p.m., officials were called to Demille Place in reference to a shooting. They arrived to find a man suffering from a serious gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital but the extent of his injuries have not been released. (CBS17, WRAL)
