Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:

  1. A construction worker was seriously injured following a trench collapse on Saturday morning. The incident happened around 11:00am on St. Albans Drive near Benson Drive. Officials are investigating to identify the cause of the accident. (CBS17)
  2. For the first time in three months, North Carolina's percentage of positive COVID-19 tests has dipped below 5%. Wake County is even lower at 3.8%. The 5% bar was set as the benchmark for low transmission and with the county even lower, residents are questioning if local officials will loosen restrictions. (abc11)
  3. Unemployment rates have been steadily dropping with September's rate falling to 4.2%, however the labor force participation has still remained low. (CBS17) As the hospitality industry is struggling to fill positions, it is creating additional incentives for employees. Some locations have begun offering college tuition reimbursement, paid sick leave, and 401(k) retirement plans. (WRAL)
  4. A Wake County driver caused a crash while travelling the wrong way along US 64 West. The driver is suspected of DWI and was given Narcan at the scene. Raymond D. Hucks already had a suspended license and hit a pickup truck that was hauling a trailer. After being transported to the hospital, Hucks left the hospital and is now on the run. (CBS17)
  5. Several Raleigh residents have been sentenced on charges in an ongoing identity fraud prosecution. The offenses occurred between February 11, 2019 and March 19, 2019. Defendant, Michael Griffin, as well as some family members and others were charged with a variety of crimes related to various forms of bank fraud. (Justice.gov)
