Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:

  1. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is warning residents after large amounts of Winchester 9mm ammunition was stolen. The AFT sent out an alert to federal firearms licensees about the thefts from freight line shipping containers in Raleigh and Durham. The bureau believes that the individuals responsible might try to sell the ammunition to the federal firearms licensees in the area. Surveillance video shows two vehicles that are believed to be connected to the thefts. (CBS17, WECT, WITN, WRAL)
  2. The Raleigh Chamber held its annual meeting to highlight the Triangle's economic strength on Thursday. In the meeting, top Raleigh business leaders said that the Triangle has grown at an "unprecedented" rate. Even though the pandemic raged across the nation, major companies like Apple and FujiFilms still proceeded to find space in North Carolina. Since the beginning of Wake County's five-year strategy, the Wake County Economic Development announced more than 8,900 new jobs and $4 billion in capital investments. (CBS17)
  3. One person was found seriously injured after being shot outside of Triangle Town Center Mall. Officers arrived to the mall on Friday to find a man with a gunshot wound in the parking lot outside of Saks Fifth Avenue. An employee at the store was unaware of the incident as the store remained open for business. Other witnesses spoke about the scene in the parking lot as people attempted to perform CPR on the victim. Officers are investigating, but have yet to identify a suspect. (abc11, WRAL)
  4. Wake County and the city of Raleigh have decided to pull funding from a Raleigh nonprofit that aids those struggling with homelessness. The Access Hub is run by the nonprofit Raleigh/Wake Partnership to End and Prevent Homelessness and it has taken about 45,000 calls since launching during the pandemic. The organization failed to reach an agreement with county leaders regarding funding, prompting the decision to pull all funding at the city and county level. In a letter to the nonprofit, it was stated that the government no longer saw fit that The Access Hub serve as the county's lead agency in preventing homelessness. (WRAL)
  5. Drivers were impacted on Friday as officials had to close part of East Edenton Street due to water main repairs. The repairs took much of Friday to complete and the closure impacted East Edenton Street from North Blount Street to South Salisbury Street. Officials said that residents and businesses in the area should not have experienced water issues due to the break or repairs. (CBS17, WRAL) The North Carolina Department of Transportation also worked to fix confusing road markings while exiting I-440 onto Glenwood Avenue. (WRAL)
